The Clean Sweep may be Keep Austin Beautiful's largest event, but it's certainly not it's only event. It's main purpose is to educate the greater Austin community about "environmental stewardship" and provide them with resources. The organization's three goals are to clean, beautify, and educate. They accomplish this through a number of different avenues. They host events, post volunteer opportunities, and actually provide service groups with the tools they need to get down and dirty to beautify the city. Here's a calendar that has information that can get you started.

There are also plenty of resources at UT specifically designed to get students educated and involved in environmental issues. The Campus Environmental Center is a student run organization that places an emphasis on environmental sustainability. They execute many different events through out the school year to specifically benefit the UT campus and student body. The Green Horns is an organization that targets UT faculty and staff. Their goal is to educate and and involve non-students in "environmental efficiency, minimization of pollution, and sustainable practices on campus."

The Austin community also has more than one great way to get involved in environmental affairs. Check out the Texas Campaign for the Environment. It's main offices are located right off of South Congress. It's a great resource in our backyards. Their site has practical tips and ideas on how to be eco-friendly, and aggregates the top news on important topics like recycling and clean air and water.
